In 1957, the first generation Thunderbird got reshaped, birthing the 1957 Ford Thunderbird. The 1957 model came with a reshaped front bumper. The car's tailfins and grille were large, making it fitted. The Thunderbird script got a new position towards the front fenders instead of the fins. Due to the level of redesign and rebranding the 1957 Thunderbird experienced, Ford sales improved in the automobile industry.
Considering the efficiency of the 1957 Ford Thunderbird, Ford sold 21,380 units.
Undoubtedly, Thunderbird was a great car with an amazing reputation in the automobile industry. However, the Thunderbird was the last two-seater Ford ever sold before Ford created the 4-seater sports car with more weight.
This example incorporates the 245 HP version of the new 312 CI engine, featuring dual exhaust and mated to the Borg Warner-designed Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission. One of very few Thunderbirds ordered with rare Coral Sand paint and a contrasting White interior, it was well optioned for easy motoring with Master Guide power steering, a Town and Country radio, heater and defroster. When it came to exterior cosmetics, buyers could choose any approach from Spartan performance sleeper to fully dressed boulevard cruiser; the buyer of this early production example took the latter approach with an optional Body Color porthole hard top, chromed wire wheels with wide Whitewall tires and factory fender skirts. A comprehensive restoration was performed on the car, with all components rebuilt and refinished, including new Coral Sand paint and a new Colonial White interior. Documented with a restoration Photo Album, this evocative example of Ford's “Personal Luxury Car” will make a fine addition to any collection.
