With the horsepower race still at full pitch in Detroit, Corvette's range of bigblock engines was carried over from 1968 to the 1969 model year. At just 2,072 units, the L68 427 Cl TriPower engine was the rarest of the production bigblock powerplants offered in 1969, the obvious exception being the racing l88. Based on the same 2boltmain c,astiron block as the single Holley 4barrelequipped L36 rated at 390 HP, the L68 satisfied the buyer's desire for exotica with the same triple 2barrel Holley TriPower carburetion system featured on the intimidating 435 HP l71 version. The differences, considered acceptable tradeoffs by those who purchased the L68, was its lower 10.25:1 compression ratio and the hydraulic camshaft in place of the L71's highmaintenance solidlifter piece. Despite those differences, the L68 still offered incredible acceleration in large part because its torque rating of 460 lbft equaled that of the L71. The 1969 Corvette benefited from serious overall development work that included rear frame reinforcements and increased interior shoulder room. Perhaps most significantly, wheel and tire width was increased by 1inch to 8inches, a significant advance accompanied by stiffer suspension tuning. Documented with the original tank sticker, ProtectOPlate, keys and owner's kit, this 1969 Corvette L68 4speed coupe is a wellequipped example showing just 34,055 miles on the odometer. A time capsule discovered in very original, unrestored condition, including the original paint and interior, the car subsequently received a meticulous nutandbolt restoration. It retains a high degree of original components, including the engine and original black leather interior, and it is sharply finished in the original color of Daytona Yellow. Desirable options include rare factory air conditioning, power steering and brakes, redline tires on Rally wheels, side exhaust, tinted glass, power windows, a tilt/telescopic steering column and a Delco AM/FM radio. This car's factory options, equipment and paperwork place it in the upper echelon of 1969 Corvettes, and a car of this magnitude is difficult to find even if you have been searching for years.
