This 1969 Corvette coupe in Tuxedo Black was Ordered New from Mohawk Chevrolet Of Schenectady New York by Lee Pike of Lake George New York. Lee was a Local Engineer and sports car enthusiast who was relentless in his pursuit for the perfect corvette with all the "right Options". Lee would often tell the story about when he was preparing to place his order for his new corvette he wanted a 4:11 Axle Ratio which was not available for a L46 350HP car with air Conditioning. Lee being the persistent kind of guy that would do what he could to get what he really wanted would call General Motors and talk to customer service representatives about how he wanted to order the car with the low 4:11 rear axle ratio but was turned down time and time again. Finally Lee worked his was all the way to the top and was put on with a gentleman with a heavy accent who low and behold ended up being Zora Duntov himself. Zora would go on to tell Lee that is was not possible to order the corvette in that configuration and he would have to settle for the 3:55 Ratio rather than the 4:11 ratio. Lee tried everything to get the order through even telling Zora he would use the corvette to pull his boat and really needed the low axle ratio. nothing worked. Lee finally in discuss told Duntov "maybe if i were Roger Penske I would be able to order the 4:11 ratio". To which Zora Responded " If you ordered as many cars as Roger Penske you could get what ever you wanted. Enjoy your new Corvette with a 3:55 Rear Axle" CLICK. At this point Lee would Finally Settle for the 3:55 which he wasn't really upset about but figured he would give his best shot to get the 4:11. The Corvette order was placed and put into production on February 8th 1969. Lee ordered the car just the way he wanted with the following options L46 350/350 HP TURBO JET V8 N14 SIDE MOUNTED EXHAUST M20 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION C60 4 SEASON AIR CONDITIONING K66 TRANSISTORIZED IGNITION AC1 SOFT RAY TINTED GLASS G81 POSITRACTION AXLE 3.55 RATIO J50 POWER BRAKES N27 TILT - TELESCOPIC STEERING WHEEL U15 SPEED WARNING INDICATOR U69 AM/FM PUSHBUTTON RADIO.
